CHC shows concern over old Panj Teerath

F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: President Culture Heritage Council (CHC) expressed his grave concern over handing over historical 2500 old heritage Panj Teerath to Auqaf Department by Town-1 administration and demanded of the provincial government to stop it from destruction.

An emergency meeting of CHC presided over by President Shakeel Waheedullah Khan, held here at a local hotel on Thursday to condemn the act of town-1 Nazim Zahid Malik for instead of preserving national heritage, is obliterating to hand it over to Auqaf department.

He informed that Panj-Teerath, was thousands of years old historical heritage, was replaced with a Chacha Younas Park, which was an attempt to destroy it and now was given to Auqaf department for further damaging it. He said that Peshawar was a historical 2600 old living city that had more heritages than other cities in Sub-Continent, but unfortunately was being obliterated due apathy of the district and provincial government.

Waheeedullah Khan further said the KP government was least bothered to preserve gardens, graveyards, tombs and other historical places, is ruining by giving them either in the hands of land mafia or due own negligence. He also demanded of NAB to interfere in the matter so that the historical place could be saved and preserved.

He said that the Auqaf department would not be able to pay its full heed to the place while it is domain of Archeology department to preserve it.

The council gave a deadline to return the Panj Teerath to Twon-I within one week otherwise the council would be compelled to launch protest demonstrations. It was also decided to constitute a Jarga comprised of residents of Peshawar to meet the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in this regard.
