Chemists and druggists observe shutter down strike

HAFIZABAD: Chemists, druggists and owners of medical stores in the district observed complete shutter down strike to protest against the amended Drugs Act 2017.

They took out a rally and staged sit-in demonstration in Vanike Chowk where the office-bearers of the association including Azhar Qayyum Cheema, Khalid Akhtar and Ch. Khalid said that they would continue their rallies and strikes if the amended Act was not withdrawn. They raised slogans against the government and declared that the amended Act was tantamount to their economic murder. Due to the strike, the patients suffered a lot of hardship and inconvenience in getting medicines.

Meanwhile, the present provincial and federal governments have made appreciable legislation to protect the rights of women and to empower them so as to provide them respect and dignity and to play their vital role in all the departments, Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar said here.

Addressing a big gathering of female students, teachers and members of NGOs in the Jinnah Hall Hafizabad, in connection with observing International Women Day, she said that due to the vision of the PML-N leadership, the women of Pakistan were proving their mettle in political, administrative, judicial, health and education departments. She said that Islam also provide complete protection to the rights of the women and our constitution has also guaranteed their all rights so as to make them self-sufficient economically.

She called upon the parents to provide all sorts of facilities to their daughters without any discrimination so as to imbibe in them self-confidence to enable them to utilize their talents and play their vital role in the development of the country. The Deputy Commissioner Saleha Saeed said that due to empowerment of women, their abilities and talents were being recognized in the country. She advised the students to concentrate on their studies and play their pivotal role in the social betterment and progress of the country. She also paid tributes to those women who brighten the name of the district by serving the country.
