Citing US-brokered ceasefire violations, Hezbollah launches first attack on Israel in days

BEIRUT (Agencies): Lebanon’s Hezbollah said Monday that it had carried out a “defensive strike” against Israel for repeated ceasefire violations, the first such attack since a US-brokered deal last week paused the monthslong war between the two.

Lebanon’s parliament speaker accused Israel of violating the ceasefire earlier in the day, after authorities said two people were killed and a Lebanese Army soldier was wounded in Israeli strikes.

The Israeli military said Monday that Hezbollah had launched two rockets across the border.

While no casualties were reported after the rockets landed in an open area, according to the Israeli military, the potential for escalation and further violence remains a concern.
