CJ PHC Waqar says PTI govt turns KP into laboratory

PESHAWAR: Chief Justice (CJ) Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth on Wednesday remarked that government had made Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a laboratory for experimentation.

His remarks came during the hearing of case regarding the extension of retirement age.

Shabeena Noor, member of civil society, had filed a case against the government challenging Civil Servant Amended Bill 2019 passed by provincial assembly. The petitioner argued to declare Civil Servant Bill 2019 null and void. According to the Bill the age of the retirement for the government servants was increased from 60 years to 63 years.

Additional Advocate General (AAG’s) Qaiser Ali Shah and Umar Farooq appeared before honorable court on behalf of provincial government.

The counsel for petitioner was Noor Alam Khan Advocate however, the petitioner appear in person before honorable court due to lawyer’s strike and argued that increasing the retirement age would cause further unemployment in the province and it would increase  ratio of aged employee which would ultimately slow down progress in government departments.

Civil Servant Amended Bill 2019 would also affect the educated youth and they could be overage before joining government services in different sectors, the petitioner added.

The two-member bench comprising of CJ Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Abdul Shakoor heard the petition and adjourned further hearing till 21 January.
