ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar directed the hospital to bring down prescription costs within the reach of the masses.
CJP said this while hearing a case pertaining to sub-standard stents on Tuesday. CJP remarked that the prescription costs should be between Rs500 to Rs1,000.
The CJP observed that normally If you go to a doctor, the medicines prescribed cost Rs5,000 to Rs7,000 which is beyond the reach of the common people.
He further remarked that the information regarding the low-cost prescriptions needs to be featured in newspapers as well and adding that the government can contact the court if they have the any reservations.
The court also ordered provincial governments to ensure that necessary medicines and instruments are present in hospitals.
The case has been adjourned for two weeks.
