Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, while presiding over a high level meeting to discuss the faulty sewerage system of Capital City of Peshawar, directed Commissioner and high ups of Peshawar Development Authority and WSSP to work out a comprehensive cleanliness plan for the capital city of Peshawar. The proposal regarding diversion of drainage channel from Gul Bahar to Pakha Ghulam was also discussed.
The mushroom growth of unplanned private townships with the connivance of Peshawar Development Authority and respective Town Municipal Administrations are converting the city of flowers into a filthy dumping ground. These organisations which are responsible for urban planning and monitoring of provision of civic facilities in the private township schemes are not performing their mandated job. The performance of Peshawar Development Authority has degenerated to the lowest level if the choked sewerage system in all phases of Hayatabad Township is any guide. This authority is the major violator of environmental laws by dumping and burning of solid waste on daily basis in the Khawr adjacent to Phase-2 and Phase-3 of the Township. A resident of nearby Alharam Model Town agitated this issue of creating health hazards on the “Citizen Portal” and the dumping and burning of solid waste and garbage was suspended for a few days by Peshawar Development Authority. The officers of Peshawar Development Authority and WSSP are now incorrigible lot and a miracle can change their attitude which will be inclined towards providing a clean environment to citizens of Peshawar Metropolis by speedy disposal of garbage on Shamshato dumping site, clearing the existing choked sewerage system and prompt planning for covered and free of design fault sewerage drains for future requirements.
