CM announces media colony for journalists

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan Wednesday announced establishment of Media Colony for journalists in the proposed Peshawar Model Town.

“The Government is fully aware of the issues faced by the journalist community. All possible steps are being taken to resolve those issues,” he said while addressing the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected cabinet of Peshawar Press Club here at CM Secretariat.

He urged upon the journalists’ community to play their effective role in projecting the public welfare initiatives of the government and maintaining a balance in their reporting.

The present government fully believed in the freedom of media and always welcomed positive criticism from media he said adding that journalists of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had always adhered to the principle of responsible reporting.
On the occasion he also announced one-time special grant of Rs 20 million for Peshawar Press Club (PPC) and cent percent increase in the seed money of Journalist Welfare Endowment Fund.

The CM also directed the concerned authorities for necessary steps for amendments in the relevant law to enhance the annual grant for PPC and to prepare a PC-1 for the establishment of a digital studio at the club. He announced nomination of martyr journalist Fakharuddin Syed for the Civil award. The journalist got infected with corona last year while covering the pandemic situation and later succumbed to the deadly infection.

The CM also announced Rs 2 Lac financial assistance each for two ailing journalists from Peshawar.
Later he administered oath from the newly elected cabinet of Peshawar Press Club. Besides Speaker Provincial Assembly Mushtaq Ghani, Special Assistant to CM on Information Kamran Bangash, Secretary Information Arshad Khan, newly elected president of PPC M Riaz, General Secretary Imran Bukhari and a large number of journalists attended the ceremony.
