CM approves Rs.125 mn grant-in-aid for five KP cancer hospitals

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has directed the health department to upgrade IRNUM Cancer Hospital in Peshawar and SINOR Cancer hospital in Swat in the next Annual Development Programme. The Chief Minister has also approved Rs 125 Million yearly grant in aid to the existing 5 cancer hospitals in the province.

The upgradation of IRNUM hospital will be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 1270 Million whereas the upgradation of SINOR Cancer hospital in Swat will be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 491 Million. The upgradation will ensure availability of modern and up to date medical equipment in the hospitals.

Moreover, the land area covered by SINOR will be increased from 40.91 to 43.34 Kanal whereas that of IRNUM will be increased from 20 to 23 Kanals. The Chief Minister further directed the upgradation of Agriculture Research Centre and Nuclear Institute of Food and Agriculture in Swat using the existing infrastructural facilities.

These decisions were taken by the Chief Minister while chairing a meeting regarding the upgradations in the Chief Ministers Secretariat. Mahmood Khan stated that reforms, as per modern requirements, are necessary for efficient services delivery.

The meeting was also attended by Minister for livestock Mohibullah Khan, Member Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Doctor Masood ul Hassan, Secretary Health, Secretary Agriculture, Major General Abid Mumtaz, DG Strategic Plans Division, and other officials.

The meeting was briefed in detail regarding the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa nuclear medicine centers, SINOR Swat, Proposed upgradation of IRNUM Cancer hospital in Peshawar and role of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in the health sector,.

Moreover, the meeting was informed regarding the establishment of Nuclear medicine center in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its role, turnout of cancer patients in the established five cancer hospitals and facilities being provided to the patients in these hospitals/centers.

According to details, the existing facilities and strength of SINOR Swat include 19 officers, 114 general staff and 70 beds space. In the year 2017-18, the total recorded patients stood at 18, 854 patients. In IRNUM hospital Peshawar, there are a 33 officers along with 150 additional staff. The hospital has 75 bed space and during the year 2017-18, the total patients recorded stood at 28,968.

The meeting was also informed regarding the 111 different types of harvests which have been obtained with the help of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, uses of electronic beams in the field of Agricultural research and importance of establishing NIFA.

The meeting was also informed that Mushroom farming is being introduced in Swat as a Home based Industry.

The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts being carried out in the agriculture sector and also stated that the present government is working on practicable strategies to provide relief to Cancer patients in the province.
