CM directs to include chapter on Seerat un Nabi in syllabus for character building

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has directed Elementary & Secondary Education department to include one chapter specifically on Seerat Un NABI (SAW) in the Syllabus for character building of the students.

The initiative will prove to be a milestone towards realizing the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan for the establishment of a welfare state on the pattern of Riasat-e- Madina, he added.

The Chief Minister stated that prime focus will be given to improving the quality of education during the current tenure of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf led provincial government along with introducing reforms to ensure transparency, strengthening of educational boards and making the examination system more efficient.

While chairing a meeting of the elementary and secondary education department, the Chief Minister was informed that recruitment against 11555 vacant posts of teachers is in progress in which appointment orders have been issued to 1000 teachers whereas the remaining appointment orders will be issued before 31st March of the ongoing year.

The meeting was informed that out of 11555 vacant posts 9440 will be recruited in the settle districts whereas 2115 will be recruited in the Newly Merged Tribal Districts.

The meeting was further informed that recruitment has been initiated for additional 12,156 PST posts which will be completed before 30th June, 2020.

Similarly 4500 new posts have been created in the schools of Newly Merged Tribal Districts whereas creation of 530 additional posts is in process. The recruitment against newly created posts will also be completed before 30th June, 2020.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of District Education Officers in certain districts of the province directing the Secretary Elementary & Secondary Education department to initiate legal action against all those officers who are not performing as per requirements.

To make the examination process more transparent and to root out cheating, the Chief Minister directed the installation of surveillance cameras in all examination Halls. The meeting was attended by Minister Elementary & Secondary Education Akbar Ayub, Minister Agriculture & livestock Mohibullah Khan, Special Assistant to CM on Higher Education Mian Khaleeq ur Rehman, SSU Head Sahibzada Saeed, Principal Secretary to CM Shahab Ali Shah, Special Secretary Finance, Secretary Elementary & Secondary Education and others.

The meeting was informed that over 1000 teachers have been suspended due to absenteeism and the Independent Monitoring Unit have been extended to 90% schools of the Newly Merged Tribal Districts whereas the service rules for Education Monitoring Authority for the NMDS have been drafted and are in the process of finalization.

Similarly, the Educational Voucher Scheme has been extended 22 Districts of the province under which 23652 students in 462 different schools are being provided with financial assistance. The total cost of scheme is Rs.180 million.

The Chief Minister also directed to expedite work on reconstruction of partially damage schools in District Peshawar, Capacity Building of ETEA, finalization of mechanism for hiring of teachers in hard areas of the province, continuous monitoring of educational institutions, establishment of Cadet College in Tribal District Orakzai, provision of scholarships to students in NMDs and extension of E-Transfer policy to the entire province.

Mahmood Khan stated that establishment of Cadet College in Upper Dir will be included in the next Annual Development Program which will not only cater to the needs of students in Upper Dir but will also facilitate students from Lower Dir, Chitral and Tribal District Bajaur.

The meeting was also informed that Under the Accelerated Implementation Program 2019-20, out of 15 projects six projects have been approved while PC-1 for the remaining projects are under process.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister directed to ensure improvement of model schools and colleges across the province further stating that the provincial government is taking concrete steps for the promotion of quality education throughout the province including NMDs.

He assured that the provincial government will provide teaching staff and other basic facilities to all the Educational Institutions on priority basis.
