LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has categorically stated that main aim of his caretaker government is to hold elections and leave gracefully.

Talking to journalists in Lahore on Monday, Mohsin Raza said “We will hold elections whenever the Election Commission of Pakistan asks us to do so.”

The chief minister made it clear that they are even ready to hold elections on a 15-day notice. “If the ECP asks to conduct polls in 15 days, we are prepared to do the bidding,” he added.

“We want to hold elections and go home with dignity. We have come for a very short period of time,” Naqvi asserted.

The chief minister said that he wanted to perform as per the satisfaction of his conscience. He said that he would try to bring improvement by accomplishing even 2% of things.

The suave CM told journalists that he would not respond to any criticism.

“I will feel ashamed if I failed to do something for journalists,” he added.

Talking about the gruesome incident of mob lynching of an accused in the Warburton prison the other day, the chief minister said that the Punjab government would try to complete the trial in two months.

On political arrests, Naqvi said the Punjab government had no role in whatever arrests had been made.

He maintained that the PTI people gathered at Zaman Park every day creating difficulties for people and flow of traffic. But if the authorities try to stop them, problem will be created, he said adding that his government was trying to improve Zaman Park’s security.
