CM praises role of tertiary care hospitals in serving patients

PESHAWAR: While paying rich tribute to the role and services of Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar in responding to any emergency situation including the corona pandemic, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan said that the role of the Tertiary Care Hospital in providing better health care services and treatment facilities to the people of the province has been remarkable.

He has assured all out support of the provincial government to the hospital to provide better treatment facilities to the corona patients and has directed the concerned high ups to take all the necessary steps to this effect on priority basis.

He was talking to the hospital Management during his visit to the hospital to review arrangements put in place therein for corona patients on Tuesday. The Chief Minister also directed the health department to provide PCR machine to the hospital for the establishment of Corona testing laboratory.

The Chief Minister remarked that all out support would be extended to Lady Reading Hospital as well as other Teaching Hospitals of the province to strengthen and enable them effectively deal with Corona cases adding that if required developmental funds will also be utilized for the people. On the demand of the hospital management, the Chief Minister directed Secretary Health and other relevant quarters to arrange a suitable accommodation setup for the temporary accomodation of frontline health workers of the hospital.

Provincial Health Minister, Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Advisor to Chief Minister Ajmal Wazir , Chief Secretary Dr. Kazim Niaz and secretary health Imtiaz Hussain Shah also accompanied the Chief Minister.

While briefing the Chief Minister about the arrangements made for corona patients in the hospital, it was informed that a dedicated separate block with a capacity of around 250 beds had been spared for Corona patients in the hospital wherein 306 health workers  including doctors, nurses and paramedics perform around the clock duties in there different shifts.

“A high dependency unit with a capacity of 80 beds and an isolation centre with a capacity of more than 80 beds have been dedicated for corona patients”, it was told and added that 30 ventilators have been spared for the COVID patients.

“At the moment there are 50 Corona patients admitted in the hospital out of which 15 are admitted in the Intensive Care Unit whereas the rest are in High Dependency Unit”, it was further informed adding that around 500 patients have been provided treatment in the hospital so far. While expressing his satisfaction on the overall arrangements of the hospital, Mahmood Khan appreciated the efforts of the hospital management for providing un-interrupted health care services to the routine patients besides catering for the emergency needs of Corona patients. The Chief Minister also paid rich tributes to the frontline workers of the hospital for their efforts to save the lives of other at the risks of their own lives.
