F.P. Report
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif ordered on Sunday an inquiry into aerial firing outside Pakistan Peoples Party office in NA-120 constituency.
Shehbaz also ordered CCPO to submit a report over the matter.
In the evening, unidentified gunmen conducted aerial firing outside the PPP office. Responding to this, PPP’s candidate Faisal Mir held the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) responsible for the incident.
He also alleged that PML-N is feeling threatened as PPP is gaining popularity in the area. Mir also claimed that he will file an application in Election Commission of Pakistan regarding those who are trying to spread fear in NA-120.
On the other hand, PML-N denied the allegations and CM ordered action to be taken against those responsible for the incident.
By-election, on the seat left vacant after Sharif’s disqualification by the Supreme Court on July 28, will be held on September 17.
A total of 44 candidates will contest the NA-120 by-poll. The Election Commission of Pakistan will establish 220 polling stations and 573 polling booths where the constituency’s 321,786 registered voters can cast their vote.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid continued campaigning on the second day of Eid. The campaign started from Karim Park. Speaking on the occasion, Rashid remarked: “I am competing against the government, not Kulsoom Nawaz [PML-N’s candidate).”
Earlier in the day, PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz, who is campaigning on behalf of her mother Kulsoom Nawaz, said that the party workers will go to each and every house during the election campaign. “We will work day and night to ensure our victory,” she said.
