CM seeks Opposition’s support on NFC issue

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan said on Wednesday that he was happy with the love of Opposition for him. He also said that he would be looking towards Opposition in order to identify any loopholes in the working of government.

Chief Minister also said that he would welcome any suggestions and cooperation from the Opposition regarding NFC awards. “The support expressed by the Opposition members to government on NFC issue is a welcoming gesture,” CM said while adding that all the members of the assembly would be treated equally when it comes to distribution of funds.

He also announced to attend the assembly session at least once a week in order to address the issues raised by the Opposition.

“Criticising government is the right of Opposition and identifying the shortcomings of government is also its prime responsibility,” Mahmood Khan said.

Answering questions, raised by opposition on posting, transfer and vacant key positions in different departments, the Chief Minister said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) believed in merit and transparency.

“The Chief Secretary KP has been given the powers of posting and transfers and PMS/DMGS officers have already been posted on key positions and those remaining officers would be posted soon,” Mahmood asserted and said that government was doing level best not to make suffer any official. He said that federal government wanted to bring change in bureaucracy. Mahmood Khan maintained that it was not the time to figure out what the previous governments did but time to add betterment to the recent performance of the government.

Earlier to this Opposition Leader Akram Khan Durrani welcomed Chief Minister in the assembly. Raising question on postings and transfers of officials and lower staff he said that liking and disliking trend was common among the bureaucracy.

“A number of senior officials have been transferred for three times just within a month and even class four employees have also been victims of likes and dislikes,” he criticsed government for the act.

Responding to Durrani, Minister for Finance Taimor Saleem Jhagra said that opposition should guide and check them.

“Improvement in Civil Services needs to be addressed but the objections of opposition were not hundred per cent true,” he said and added that he agreed that the system was not perfect but they were struggling and are on way to it.

“If the performance of officers was upright and up to the mark then they would not face repeated transfers and if opposition has any evidence of corruption they were welcomed to present in house,” he said by adding that no member has visited him with any complaint against posting and transfer.

He maintained that KP government had received Rs.20 billion in terms of net hydel profit previous month and tribal districts would be allocated 27 billion and 60 million rupees in Annual Developmental Programme (ADP).

He added that out of announced 1000 billion rupees package, 100 billion rupees would issued to tribal districts in the start of next financial year.

Earlier to this Inayatullah Khan of Jamat Islami (JI) said that about fifty percent of teaching staff have been posted on key positions in education department.

“A number of universities were deprived of vice chancellors and POGCL was being run without CEO,” he stated and added that officials of grades 18 and 19 have been waiting for posting since long.

Inayatullah Khan objected that Secretary Education have been changed repeatedly.

Minister for Finance Taimour Saleem Jhagra, in response, said that the government previously could not scrutinized right person for the post of CEO for PEDO but the post has already been posted again.

He maintained that all universities have VCs and soon Benazir University would be run by VC.

Inayatullah Khan of JI on floor of the house also raised a question of the performance of Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) Hayatabad Peshawar and said that IKD since established has performed 20 operations.

“Lack of funds was a big hindrance in the performance of IKD,” he said.

Speaking on the floor of the house Minister for Health Hasham Inamullah Wazir said that an amount of Rs.100 million for kidney transplant and Rs.200 million for dialysis were required.

Later, the Speaker adjourned assembly session till March 28, (Thursday).
