CM to launch austerity drive, promote agenda for public welfare

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan Monday reiterated the resolve to launch austerity drive, cut down unnecessary expenditure, discourage corruption and corrupt practices and promote the agenda for public welfare during his rule in the province.

He said that a just society guaranteeing the rights of all, people friendly governance, supremacy of law and justice and merit based decision making along with education and health for all is the destination of this country.

He was talking to MPAs Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel, Ishtiaq Urmar, Fazal Illahi, Kamran Bangash, Asif Khan, Malik Wajid Khan, Pir Moswar Shah and Abdul Karim at the Chief Minister annexy here. The MPAs floated different suggestions for good governance and resolution of people grievances.

The CM called upon the elected representatives to identify the weaknesses in the system and obstruction in resolution of people’s grievances through collective decision making.

He deplored that the past rulers were self-centric promoting the forces of status quo which he termed as an enmity with the people, adding the PTI government in KP would reform the whole governance structure plugging all the gapes used by elite class and exploitative forces for their own gains.

Mahmood Khan said KP government efforts against lawlessness and injustices would weaken the forces of status quo and would strengthen and empower the people.

He said the provincial government has multiple challenges and would ensure the interest of the masses while taking them on board. “We have to eliminate corruption, nepotism and favoritism and we have to ensure the transparent utilization of resources for the public welfare,” he added.

The Chief Minister reminded that education, health and social services would be the key areas his government would work on. The agriculture sector development and other productive sectors would generate a lot of jobs for the jobless.

He said measures would be taken to prepare youth for future challenges, proper use of natural resources and development of tourism and industrial sectors to generate jobs in the province.

The government would evolve a transparent mechanism where there would be no deviation from merit and law, he vowed and assured the government would never compromise on merit and public welfare as per the vision of PTI leader Imran Khan and the party manifesto.

The Chief Minister asked the elected MPAs to coordinate with the people, comprehend their problems and find out solution to their problems, assuring the government’s support.
