COAS discusses regional security with president Ghani

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said Pakistan is ready to support in achieving the mutual interests in the war against terrorism including training and capacity building of the Afghan Security forces.

COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa held a meeting with the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday. They discussed regional security among other issues.

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) told media that General Bajwa also held one on one meeting President Ashraf Ghani at the presidential palace and followed by a delegation level discussion.

According to ISPR, President Ghani has said Afghanistan and Pakistan are two friendly neighboring countries and we need put aside our difference and work together for the sustainable peace in the region.

Both the countries agreed on developing the framework for maintaining the peaceful environment in the region and they also agreed on the focused dialogue at multiple levels to avoid any misunderstanding between the two neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, Gen Bajwa was accompanied by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, DG ISI Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, Pakistan’s envoy in Kabul and staff of the army chief.

Gen Bajwa was visiting the neighboring country for a day-long visit on the invitation of President Ghani.
