Collective efforts can eradicate corruption: DC

TIMERGARA: The newly posted deputy commissioner Lower Dir Captain (retired) Sarmad Saleem Akram on Thursday said the government was committed to end malpractices in government departments and eradicate the menace of corruption. He was addressing the participants of an awareness walk at Balambat.

Earlier officials of government departments, local government and civil society representatives walked on the road. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against corruption. The Lower Dir nazim Muhammad Rasool Khan and deputy commissioner led the awareness walk. Speaking on the occasion DC Sarmad Saleem, nazim Muhammad Rasool Khan, Balambat tehsil nazim Imran ud Din, anti-corruption Timergara circle in-charge Israr Khan and others said that corruption and malpractices could only be ended with collective efforts from all segments of society.

They said that corruption and development could not go along as it was corruption that hollowed the foundation of the nation. The speakers said the society confronted with lawlessness, frustration and destabilization because of growing corruption. They said that cheating, plundering and dishonesty in dealing had been forbidden in the religion Islam too. They asked the participants to raise awareness in masses against the menace of corruption.

The speakers demanded of the government to award exemplary punishment to people involved in corruption cases so that no one in future could dare to commit this crime. The anti corruption Timergara circle also arranged an awareness walk here the other day. Students, teachers and area elders participated in the walk.

Later a function was held at the Centennial model high school Timergara which was addressed by anti corruption Timergara circle in charge Israr Khan, focal person Shakirullah, Principal Mukhtiar Khan and others. They said that corruption had been damaging the very foundation of the country. They termed corruption a menace that needed to be eradicated once for all. The speakers also highlighted importance of honesty and integrity. They said the society needed collective efforts for rooting out the menace of corruption.
