Commission formed to implement Shariah

Monitoring Desk

LASHKARGAH: A religious commission was formed in Helmand to stop activities considered against Shariah in the province.

Deputy chairman of Helmand provincial administration and acting governor Sardar Muhammad Hamdard would be head of the commission.

Chairman of Helmand religious affairs Hafiz M. Daud would be deputy head of the commission. Representatives of National Directorate of Security, appellate court, provincial assembly and police headquarters would be its members.

The commission would put efforts to stop all the actions falling outside the umbrella of the Shariah.

Talking to Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), Deputy chairman of Helmand provincial administration and acting governor Sardar Muhammad Hamdard said the commission would take steps against magic, gambling, theft, drugs, liquor and other non-Islamic actions as per the rules of Shriah.

Members of the commission said they would put all-out efforts against all the activities falling out of the ambit of Shariah. It would help reduce crimes in the province, he observed.

Many Afghan people believe that non-implementation of Shariah and lack of punishment for criminals were the reasons of rising crimes in the country.

They are of the view that if the Afghan government took serious steps for the implementation of Shariah laws besides giving exemplary punishment to criminal elements, the level of crimes would go down.

Murders, theft, abduction, gambling, drugs, corruption and other crimes have confronted the Afghan people with serious challenges in their daily lives. A similar commission was active in the country when the Taliban were in power in the country. It had reduced the level of crimes to zero in Afghanistan.

The Taliban have been executing Shariah laws in the areas falling under their control.
