Committee discusses laws on family, water management

KABUL (Agencies): The Laws Committee of Cabinet with Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danesh on the Chair held session here.

According to the agency, the session discussed law on families and the draft law on waters. At the outset, the draft law on waters was presented by acting minister of water and energy to the session, saying the law was prepared in line with the article 9 of the country’s constitution.

The law includes management and saving of water resources, balanced distribution of waters, easing better utilizing of water resources, addressing agricultural and industry needs of public and economic growth through better management of the waters, the agency added.

The session principally approved the draft law, instructing ministries of water and energy, agriculture, rural rehabilitation and development and finance to include their views in the draft and present it to the cabinet meeting.

Meanwhile the ministry of Justice presented the law on families, saying it was prepared in line with article 54 of the constitution and includes issues related to marriage, divorce, bolstering of relations between the family members and ensuring their rights, supporting children, ensuring physical and mental health and prevention of anti-Islamic acts.

Calling law of families one of the key laws in the country, VP Danesh said the government was working on the law in since many years and was one of the commitments of the government to the international community.

The session decided that a technical team with representatives of ministries of women’s affairs, hajj and religious affairs, independent human rights organization, oversight commission of implementation of the constitution, national security council, supreme court, Ulema council and other relevant organs once review the law and present it again to the laws committee.
