KABUL (Khaama Press): Local officials in Daikundi province reported that the Sokhtak power dam has been put into operation and is handed over to the authorities. The dam was reportedly built at a cost of 4.9 million US dollars and has a capacity of producing 700kW of electricity.
According to the officials, the process of distributing power has begun in the city of Nili and its suburbs. This dam has the capacity to provide further 2,000 new homes in Nili city in Shahristan district of Daikundi province.
Sokhtak Dam was laid seven years ago, the construction of the dam was supposed to be completed in 3 years. Previously, President Ghani inaugurated Kamal khan Dam in western Nimroz province along with two of his deputies Amrullah Saleh and Sarwar Danish. Other government officials were also at the inauguration ceremony of Kamal Khan dam.
All three officials President Ghani, Amrullah Saleh, and Sarwar Danish hit three yellow buttons that opened the dam’s sluice gates and water started flowing into the canal for the first time. Before the release of white Dove that signified the country’s desperate need for peace, President Ghani and his first and second deputies signed a book on the commemoration of the dam. The dam in the Chahar Burjak district of the province has a 52 million cubic meters capacity and will irrigate 174,000 to 180,000 hectares of land.
The damn will also provide 9 megawatts of electrical power, and as it is located near Harirud river the dam will help provide water to the provincial center, according to the National Water Affairs Regulation Authority. Kalam Khan damn is 16 meters high and beside irrigation it will facilitate in prevention of floods in the province. Ghani during the opening ceremony of Kamal Khan dam referred to Iran and said: We do not give free water, give us fuel, get water.
