Contempt case: Tallal Chaudhry to be indicted on March 14

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan announced on Thursday that State Minister for Interior Affairs Tallal Chaudhry will be indicted on March 14 in contempt of court case.

Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan headed the three-member bench, comprising Justices Maqbool Baqar and Faisal Arab heard the case regarding Tallal’s disapproving speeches against the judiciary.

The bench rejected the reply of PML-N leader submitted in response to a show-cause notice.and announced the date to frame charges against him.

The court has summoned Chaudhry in person on March 14.

During last hearing on Tuesday, the three-member bench ordered Additional Attorney General (AAG) Waqar Rana to provide a copy of the CD to Chaudhry’s counsel regarding his anti-judiciary speeches.

On Feb 1, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice of the anti-judiciary speeches by PML-N leader Tallal Chaudhry.

The case was initiated after Chaudhry was seen launching a tirade against judiciary at the ruling party’s recent rally in Jaranwala where PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz also criticised Supreme Court and judges.

PML-N leader has been criticizing judiciary in talk-shows and media-talks on occasions of hearings against Sharif family at Accountability Court and the Supreme Court.
