ISLAMABAD: A contempt plea was filed in Lahore High Court (LHC) against IG Punjab and Islamabad for not presenting PTI leader Fawad Chaudhary before the court despite the court orders.
As per details, Azhar Siddique filed the contempt plea on behalf of Fawad Chaudhary’s relative Nabeel Shehzad. The plea stated that the LHC order three times to present former federal minister Fawad Chaudhary before court but Islamabad police did not present him. Hence contempt court plea should proceed against the concerned officials. Earlier, the LHC summoned the inspector generals of Islamabad and Punjab police on Saturday at 6 pm after the authorities failed to produce PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry before the court.
The former federal minister was arrested by Islamabad police on Wednesday morning from outside his residence for “inciting violence against a constitutional institution”.
Meawhiel, a petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking court’s order for election in Punjab within 90 days of dissolution of the assembly. Petitioner Muneer Ahmed has made the President, Punjab Governor and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as respondents in the case.
According to the petition, “It is compulsory to hold elections within 90 days after dissolution of the assembly under the constitution.” ” Two weeks have passed to dissolution of the provincial legislature but no date announced for the election in province,” petitioner said. “The governor is not announcing the election under the political agenda,” petitioner claimed. “The governor is violating the constitution while avoiding to announce the election date,” petitioner said. Petition sought the court to issue an order to the Governor of Punjab to announce the date of election in Punjab.(INP)
