Contradictions in health policy

Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, who is also holding the portfolio of Health Department, has asked young doctors to come forward and stand shoulder-to shoulder with the government in its fight against coronavirus, while talking to a delegation of Insaf Doctors Forum, the other day.

The bristling contradictions in the health policy of government are taking toll on healthcare system in the province. A former visionary health secretary, who was keen to expand and improve the healthcare system, was transferred just after few months, the incumbent government assumed power. The department was run without fulltime secretary health for a period, more than a year. Medical fraternity heaved a sigh of relief when fulltime secretary health was posted. The portfolio of health minister was changed and his successor was, then sacked and once again the department is not having fulltime minister.

It is high time that faulty health policy is revisited by removing glaring contradictions in it, which is detrimental to the healthcare system.
