Controversial verdict of Imran’s marriage case crosses all limits, says Farhatullah Babar

LAHORE (INP): Senior leader of Farhatullah Babar, has strongly criticized the recent verdict in the marriage case against Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, labeling it as an unwarranted overstep. Babar expressed his disdain, stating that the verdict has crossed all boundaries and tarnished the regime’s reputation. He asserted that those advocating against involving women in politics would vehemently oppose this decision.

In a parallel reaction, senior journalist and anchor Shahzad Iqbal decried the verdict in the alleged illegal marriage case involving the Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and his wife. Iqbal found the case to be shameful, highlighting the unusual nature of a man recalling, after five years, that his wife got married during her Idda. He questioned the judge’s ability to determine a woman’s completion of three periods, emphasizing the personal nature of such information.

In the illegal marriage case, Judge Qudratullah issued a detailed 51-page written decision, declaring the marriage between PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi on January 1, 2018, as illegal. The judgment acknowledged Khawar Manika’s success in proving the marriage’s illegality, citing evidence of bad faith and intentional fraud.

According to the court verdict, Khawar Manika substantiated that the marriage ceremony on January 1, 2018, was conducted in bad faith, with the petitioner proving the marriage took place with fraudulent intent. The judgment noted Khawar Maneka’s affidavit, acknowledging relations between PTI founder and Bushra Bibi during sit-ins, and corroborated solitary meetings between them.

While both PTI founder and Bushra Bibi are in custody, the court issued a warrant of commitment to Jail Superintendent Adiala, Rawalpindi, for the enforcement of their sentences. The written judgment highlighted evidence of links between PTI founder and Bushra Bibi even before their marriage in January 2018, as attested by Khawar Maneka, who stated their relationship developed after the 2014 sit-in.
