Councilors allege irregularities in billion tree tsunami project

TIMERGARA: The Lower Dir district councilors on Tuesday alleged mass embezzlement and irregularities in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Billion Tree Tsunami Afforestation Project (BTTAP) and demanded high level inquiry against it.

The councilors expressed dissatisfaction on the performance of forest department during the council session held with its convener Abdul Rashid in the chair. Taking part in debate on the agenda the ANP councilor Wasil Khan alleged the forest department had claimed to have planted one billion trees across the province but actually half of it had not been planted.

He said that plants were distributed last year in blue eyed people. Other councilors both from the treasury and opposition benches supported the ANP member and demanded of the government and NAB to initiate a high level inquiry against the irregularities and embezzlement in the BTTAP. The councilors suggested that plants should be distributed in farmers through local government representatives this year.

District councilors Shad Nawaz Khan, Fazal Qadir, Malik Barakat Khan, Alam Zeb, Maulana Muhammad Imran, Malik Muhammad Zeb and others while speaking on the agenda criticized the Pesco for over billing and excessive power outage.

The council through unanimously passed resolutions demanded exemplary punishment for the killers of Zainab of Qasur, Asima of Mardan and Naqeeb Mehsud of North Waziristan. It also demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to lift ban on stone crushing plants in the district.
