Court accepts NAB plea to end inquiry against Chaudhry brothers

F.P. Report

LAHORE: An accountability court approved on Tuesday the National Accountability Bureau plea to end ongoing inquiry against Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

The inquiry pertains to buying of 28 plots in the LDA Scheme. The accountability court was hearing the case on the NAB plea, which requested to end the inquiry due to lack of evidence.

The probe authority said that during probe it was proved that the plots were bought by the servant of Chaudhry brothers.

The NAB’s investigation officer stated that Chairman (retd) Javed Iqbal had given the permission to end the inquiry.

The accountability watchdog had been investigating the brothers over allegations of owning assets beyond their known sources of income.

According to sources in NAB Lahore office, a number of shares have surfaced in various companies under the name of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, his cousin Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and their family.

Shujaat briefly remained prime minister of Pakistan in 2004 while Elahi was chief minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007.
