COVID-19 survivor: ‘Strong morale’ is key

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Wahid Ahmad, a resident of the western province of Herat, recovered from a COVID-19 infection and said that having “strong morale,” along with following medical advice, is the best way to fight the illness.

He was the first reported case of COVID-19 infection in Afghanistan.

Wahid Ahmad recovered completely from the epidemic after a month of hospitalization in Herat province. “Implement recommended measures and do not fear,” said Wahidullah. “On the first day I was deeply afraid. After three days I realized that it was a beatable virus.”

Wahid Ahmad was in Qom, Iran, when he became infected.

“Strong morale is the most important thing. All of us are Muslim and we believe in Allah, and that provides strength against the coronavirus,” said Wahid Ahmad.

The Ministry of Public Health said that his last three tests were negative and he has no signs of the virus. “He was the first man who tested positive for the coronavirus. He was hospitalized in Herat provincial hospital for two weeks. He is now healthy and has joined his family,” said Khalid Ahadi, head of the law enforcement department in the ministry.

This comes as 22 Afghans have tested positive for COVID-19 across Afghanistan.

All the infected persons had been in Iran before they became infected, health officials said.(TOLOnews)
