ISLAMABAD: Cricket Presenter Zainab Abbas Thursday apologized for her remarks on India and Hindus on Twitter.
In her statement, she said that she has always felt extremely fortunate and grateful for the opportunities to travel for the sport she loves.
She said that she was neither asked to leave nor was deported. She just felt intimidated and scared by the reaction that was unfolding online.
Zainab said that she needed some space and time to reflect on what had transpired.
She apologized saying that she understands and deeply regrets the hurt caused by her posts. She wanted to make clear that the posts do not represent her values. “There is no excuse or space for such language, and I sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended.”
Earlier, An Indian lawyer said he had filed a complaint to authorities against her for hurting Hindu sentiments and making anti-India statements.
Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, the lawyer flagged posts allegedly made by Abbas almost a decade ago in which she said New Delhi smelled like “cow piss”.
