Customs foils bid to smuggle diesel, betel nut from abroad

F.P. Report

QUETTA: Customs officials on Wednesday foiled the bid to smuggle diesel and betel nut from abroad during a raid in Kolpur near Quetta.

The Customs officials said 200 drums of diesel, 590 bags of betel nut and 400 tyres were confiscated. They said the seized goods were worth Rs40 million.

They said they had also carried out raids in Khuzdar, Dera Murad Jamali and Buleli areas.

On April 29, Customs officials had foiled a bid to smuggle foreign currency worth millions of rupees from Peshawar Bacha Khan Airport.

Customs officials had recovered 110,000 Saudi Arabian Riyal and 20,000 United Arab Emirates Dirham from two passengers. They had arrested both the passengers.

Airport sources had said they were smuggling the foreign currency to Dubai.

On April 27, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested a man at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi over his alleged involvement in human trafficking.

The man, identified as Muhammad Bilal, was arrested when he landed at the airport from a Dubai flight.

Bilal was accused of sending a man to Britain by taking Rs 1.7 million, however, he kept his client in Dubai for four months and then sent him back home.
