DABS signs agreements to produce electricity

KABUL (TOLOnews): Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (Afghanistan’s electricity company) signed three agreements to produce 240 megawatts of electricity through solar and thermal energy with domestic companies in the presence of the Political Deputy of the Prime Minister and some officials of the Islamic Emirate.

According to the officials of this company, two agreements, each with the capacity to produce 100 megawatts of electricity, are related to solar energy, and another agreement for the production of 40 megawatts of electricity from coal was signed in the capital.

Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Political Deputy of the Prime Minister, said during this meeting that Afghanistan has significant potential for energy production.

He emphasized the importance of attracting investments for energy production from Afghanistan’s domestic resources and said that efforts to increase energy production and achieve self-sufficiency are continuing in earnest.

The Political Deputy of the Prime Minister said: “We are trying to facilitate investments in domestic energy resources and make Afghanistan self-sufficient in this regard.”

Meanwhile, Nooruddin Azizi, acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, said that the distribution of land in 52 industrial parks has been approved by the leader of the Islamic Emirate, and currently there are 800 applicants for land in these parks, all of whom are in need of electricity.

Azizi said that Afghanistan’s industry cannot achieve self-sufficiency without sufficient energy.

The acting Minister of Industry and Commerce said: “The laws for industrial parks have been ratified by the leader of the Islamic Emirate and made available to us, and we have communicated this to the entire private sector.”

Abdul Bari Omar, the CEO of Breshna Company, said that without foreign assistance, the company has made significant progress in the past three years in increasing energy production from domestic resources and managing networks, substations, and other sectors.

Omari, highlighting Afghanistan’s large energy production capacity from water, wind, thermal, and other resources, called on domestic and foreign investors to invest in this sector.

The CEO of Breshna Company said: “We are working to improve the meter system in the near future. We are working on smart meters.”

At the end of the meeting, investment opportunities in Afghanistan’s electricity sector were shared with Breshna Company, domestic and foreign investors, along with representatives of the United Nations and donors, through graphic and video presentations.
