Dearth of school teachers

Over the years government schools are confronted with the pressing issues pertaining to the dearth of teachers and culture of absenteeism that had flourished among the schoolteachers. Because of these inefficiencies parents of middle class families preferred the admission of their school going children in private schools. A news report in a leading Urdu daily reveals that 12000 sanctioned posts of PST, CT and SST teachers are lying vacant in government schools.

The up-gradation curriculum and its conversion into English plus the strict monitoring  the performance and punctuality of teachers has increased the ratio of seeking retirement before reaching the age of superannuation among the teachers. This adds to the issue of less number of teachers against their sanctioned strength in each school.  The education for all campaign has doubled the number of students in government schools. The situation on ground now is that in the primary schools of urban areas one teacher is available for a class of 120 students which even impact the performance of intelligent and dedicated towards duty teachers when online review of learning of the enrolled students is taken by the high-ups of the department for Elementary and Secondary Education.

The absolute transparency and strictly adherence to merit has resulted in the induction of highly educated young teachers who are imbibed with the true spirit of communicating contemporary knowledge to the students. But after the handing over results of written tests to the department of Elementary and Secondary Education by the designated testing agencies the remaining codal formalities consume a lot of time which cause delay in the appointment of teachers, which needs streamlining.
