Delusion of imaginary enemy

Written by The Frontier Post

US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman traveled to China for meetings with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other Senior Chinese officials from July 25-26. According to US media, the Deputy Secretary and State Councilor Wang had a frank and open discussion about a range of issues and negotiated the ways to set terms for responsible management of the US-China relationship. US side observed that it Intends to continue to strengthen competitive hands but that it does not seek conflict with the PRC.

According to US media, the Deputy Secretary raised concerns in private about a range of Chinese actions that run counter to US values and interests and those of its allies and partners, and that undermine the international rules-based order particularly human rights, including Beijing’s anti-democratic crackdown in Hong Kong, alleged crimes against humanity in Xinjiang, abuses in Tibet and the curtailing of media access and freedom of the press. It was said that Sherman discussed US concerns about Beijing’s conduct in cyberspace, across the Taiwan Strait, and in the East and South China Seas. Sherman also raised the cases of American and Canadian citizens detained in China or under exit bans. Sherman underscored the importance of cooperation in areas of global interest, such as climate change, counter narcotics, nonproliferation, North Korean crisis, Iran, Afghanistan, and Burma. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng told the media that the China-US relationship is now in a stalemate and faces serious difficulties. According to Feng, it is because some Americans portray China as an “imagined enemy”. While referring to Pearl Harbor moment and the Sputnik moment he said that US Scholars are comparing China to Japan in the Second World War and the Soviet Union in the Cold War and making China as an imagined enemy of the US.

Apparently, the so-called open and frank discussion seems to be one sided allegations and desires not only of the US but its allies and partners which are more than three dozen countries including EU. US has practically undertaken numerous financial, political, diplomatic, and trading measures to knockdown China during the fight of world number one, whereas Feng is still in delusion of imagination or reality.
