Dengue virus claims another life in Karachi

KARACHI: The dengue virus claimed another victim as a three-year-old suffering from the disease passed away, on Tuesday.

According to details, the child was a resident of the city’s Orangi Town area. The girl was diagnosed with dengue virus and was admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

Her death brought the tally of dengue victims in Karachi to 33. In Sindh, the people who have died as a result of dengue virus has risen to 34.

Dengue concern worsens as over 100 cases reported every day in Karachi

The number of dengue cases in Sindh jumped to 4,151 for the ongoing year, it was reported last month, as an additional 115 people in Pakistan’s southern port city were diagnosed with the virus over the past 24 hours, a spokesperson for the provincial health department’s Dengue Control And Prevention Program had confirmed.

The spokesperson had also said that in various other districts of Sindh, another 252 cases of dengue were recorded.

The new cases — including from Karachi (115) as well as Sindh’s other districts (252) — bumped up the total number of dengue patients to 4,151 for 2019, while the death toll from dengue rose to 15, as of reporting time.
