KABUL: The deputy operational chief of Baghlan intelligence lost his life in militants ambush earlier today, security officials said Sunday.
The officials speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed that Abdul Mahmood, the deputy chief of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) in Baghlan lost his life in an ambush.
The sources further added that the incident took place in Kelagai area of the province earlier today.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
The security situation in northern Baghlan province has deteriorated during the recent years as the anti-government armed militants are attempting to expand their foothold in key northern provinces.
Taliban militants are active in some of the remote districts of Baghlan province where they often attempt to carry out terrorist related activities against the government and security institutions. (Khaama Press)
