Dharna Violence case: ATC accepts Imran Khan’s exemption case

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad approved the exemption request of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in Dharna violence case on Tuesday.

Judge Shahrukh Arjumand heard the case. Shahid Naseem Gondal, counsel of Imran Khan appeared before the court and requested exemption from hearing for PTI chief in today’s hearing.

Later the Judge approved the Imran Khan plea and grant him exemption from personal appearance and adjourned the hearing till April 10.

The terrorism cases were registered against Imran Khan, Pakistan Awami Tehreek Chairman Tahirul Qadri and others for torturing Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asmatullah Junejo and five other police officers.

The workers of PTI and PAT tortured the police officer and attacking the parliament and State Television building during a sit-in in Islamabad in 2014. They were protesting against alleged rigging in the 2013 election and the Model Town tragedy. The protest lasted for record 104 days.
