Diljit Dosanjh meets Indian PM Modi

(Web Desk): Diljit Dosanjh held a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on New Year’s Day during which the singer and actor received congratulations for his extraordinary global success.

The two personalities engaged in a candid conversation, touching upon Diljit’s rise to international fame, the cultural influence of Indian music, and the transformative power of Yoga.

In a video shared by Diljit on social media, PM Modi praised the singer’s achievements, remarking, “When a boy from an Indian village becomes famous on the global stage, it feels good. Your family named you Diljit, and you are winning everyone’s hearts.” Diljit, who hails from the Punjab region, responded thoughtfully, sharing how his travels across India deepened his understanding of the country’s greatness. “We used to read ‘Mera Bharat Mahan’ (My India is great), but when I started travelling around the country, that is when I realised why they say ‘Mera Bharat Mahan’,” he said.

The conversation naturally shifted to Yoga, a subject both PM Modi and Diljit hold in high regard. Diljit, who has frequently spoken about his personal experience with Yoga, called it “the greatest magic our country has to offer.” Modi, a well-known advocate of Yoga, concurred, stating, “The one who has experienced Yoga, they know its power.” The two discussed how Yoga can unite people globally, enhancing physical and mental well-being while preserving India’s ancient cultural heritage.

Towards the end of the video, Diljit sang a devotional song, and PM Modi, appearing to enjoy the performance, even played along, rhythmically tapping on the adjacent table as if playing a dholak. The light-hearted moment highlighted the mutual respect and camaraderie between the two.

During the meeting, Diljit gifted PM Modi a poster from his Dil-Luminati tour, marking the milestone of one of the most talked-about musical events of the year.

The tour, which began in India, has garnered widespread attention, further cementing Diljit’s position as a key figure in the global entertainment scene.

Diljit has also been outspoken about the challenges he faced regarding censorship during his concerts. Recently, some state governments asked him to avoid singing songs that referenced alcohol and drugs.

Although Diljit made modifications to his lyrics, he expressed his displeasure with what he viewed as unnecessary “policing” of his music. During his concert in Mumbai, Diljit pointed out that Bollywood songs often contain similar references, yet he felt singled out. He received similar instructions for his shows in Hyderabad and Chandigarh.
