Disney’s upcoming animated feature Encanto gets a release date. During their Investor Day 2020, Disney announced Encanto as their next animated film, along with a teaser video that gave a sneak peak of the movie’s setting and music. Set in Colombia, Encanto follows a young girl with a magical family. Directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, who co-directed Zootopia, and written and co-directed by Charise Castro Smith, Encanto will be Disney Animation Studios’ 60th feature. Disney also confirmed that the movie-musical will feature songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also wrote the music for the 2016 animated hit Moana and the upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid.

Initially only announced to be released in fall of next year, Encanto now has a release date of November 24, 2021. Disney is so far keeping a tight lip on the movie’s plot, with a voice cast still not yet announced, but more information will likely come out soon.

Encanto is one of Disney’s latest movies announced on their upcoming release schedule. Their next animated movie, Raya and the Last Dragonwhich arrives in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access in March, follows a young warrior determined to find the last dragon in a reimagined Earth. Encanto and Raya and the Last Dragon are part of Disney’s recent effort to have more diverse representation in their movies, following Pixar‘s Coco, which takes place in Mexico, and Soul, Pixar’s first film to feature a Black protagonist. Encanto will be Disney’s first Latinx animated film.

Though Encanto still has a little less than a year before it comes out, fans will likely get more sneak peaks at the movie in the coming months. Disney Animation Studios certainly has a full lineup, including four animated movie sequel shows scheduled for 2022 and 2023.
