District govt to hold ‘Azam Nujawan’

PESHAWAR: Nazim of the city district government, Muhammad Asim Khan said that district government has planned to organize an entertainment-cum sports event titled “Azam Nujawan “for upbringing hidden talent of youth.

The current local government system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a prodigious gift on the part of the PTI-led government to the general masses as it has devolved the unbridled authorities previously enjoyed by the bureaucracy thus empowering the general masses to solve their grievances through their elected representatives, said Muhammad Asim Khan during “Meet the Press” program at Peshawar press club. The event will be held on 16 March in which players will take part in 16 different games including indoor and outdoor.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, he admitted that certain hiccups do exists in current local government system which will be eradicated with the passage of time. He shared details with regard to developmental initiatives taken by city district government in the provincial metropolitan.

City district government, he informed was establishing a food street in the Namakmandi area which is world famous for its rich culinary taste with the initial estimate of Rs 60 million while 80 per cent construction has been completed. Sharing his government’s future line of action, he claimed the local government would construct a parking plaza in the vicinity of the Namakmandi area to the hefty cost of Rs 250 million constructed under supervision of Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) . PDA has already invited tenders from eminent construction companies. Referring to the shifting of general taxi stand from premises of Peshawar to reduce the burden of traffic on main arteries, Mr Asim said that chief minister Pervaiz Khattak is taking keen interest to relocate the existing bus stands from their current position and for this purpose 400 Kanal land has been acquired and soon project will be handed over to National Logistic Cell or Chinese firm for pragmatic approach.

He said that all the basic amenities of life such as access to clean drinking water, provision of public latrines and other facilities are being provided to the passengers at Kohat bus stand, Charsadda bus stand and general bus stand at a cost of 50 million rupees.

Introducing health reforms as part of PTI-led-coalition government agenda, has been the priority of city district government and it (govt) provided all basic facilities in basic health units (BHUs) in order to minimize burn on major hospitals in provincial city, he claimed.

He said the government has provided approximately Rs 5 million to children hospital so that it could be provided with lifesaving medicines and other equipment.

Moreover, he said that in order to provide uninterrupted medical facilities to the patients, the city district government has solarized three BHUs in Matani, Budhber and Warsak road.

He said that city district government has started a project wherein sewing machines are being provided to women so that they could earn their livelihood in dignified manner as part of its government’s agenda to empower women. Nazim further elaborated that they had previously organized various tournaments including night hockey and other sports tournament wherein teams across the province participated and demonstrated their talent.

However, the city government has planned to organize a youth sports event “Azam Nujawan” in March, 2018. To a query, he said that in order to preserve our ancient history, the city district government with the collaboration of provincial government has allocated a hefty Rs 230 million for cultural heritage.
