F.P. Report

LARKANA: HIV infected doctor was detained on a three-day physical remand after allegedly spreading HIV to his patients, in Rato Dero area of Larkana, on Tuesday.

According to details, the arrested doctor was identified as Dr. Muzaffar Ghangharo, is a government employee and also runs a private clinic.

Dr. Muzaffar Ghangharo’s HIV test came positive which supposedly was considered to be the reason of many HIV cases in Larkana division.

HIV was spread to children in a great amount in Rato Dero where people are dying due to zero treatment facilities and far-off medical centres. People there are fighting the virus only with medications which is clearly not enough.

Supervisor of the HIV Aids Control Programme in the area, Dr Abdul Hafeez said the children who are tested HIV positive are between the ages of four months and eight years.

As per reports, used syringes were injected into different patients which spread it over 40 children, who have reached the brink of death.

Without treatment, HIV-infected people go on to develop AIDS, a syndrome that weakens the immune system and leaves the body exposed to opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis, and some types of cancer.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Noman Siddique said that labortaroies were found guilty in the initial investigation, 20 out of many have already been closed down. He added that there is an undergoing investigation against suspect whereas few medical centres have also been developing for the HIV-infected children.

Dr. Muzaffar declined all the charges saying, “The Sindh Healthcare Commission is conspiring against me. If I had known about [HIV/AIDS] then I would have sought treatment. I did not experience any pain”.

Court ordered to put him in physical remand to police for three days.
