Doctors go on strike against health authority in Dir

F.P. Report

TIMERGARA: On the call of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Doctors’ Council the Lower Dir doctors observed complete boycott of duties in OPDs at government hospitals in the district.

Due to closure of OPDs the patients suffered hard as the doctors had also closed their private clinics in the morning. Patients from Chitral, Upper Dir and Bajaur returned homes without taking health care at Timergara. The doctors were protesting against the formation of district health authority to take control of public sector hospitals. Emergency cover however provided to severe patients.

They were of the view that the government had planned to gradually privatize government hospitals. They said the hospitals’ privatization would affect poor patients. They said that doctors had not been taken into confidence before preparing draft of the bill for hospitals. The protesting doctors warned to continue their strike until the government accepted their demand.
