Don’t lost opportunity to develop consensus on polls: JI Emir

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq has warned the politicians that perhaps only the “local government polls” would be held in the country if they lost opportunity to develop consensus on the general elections.

In a statement issued from Mansoorah on Wednesday, he said that getting consent of the allies on national vote was also a test case for the prime minister. Extremist approach in both the political and religious matters was dangerous for a society, he added.

Haq said that some people in the country wanted martial law in democracy and the same aggressively talked about people’s right to vote for during military rule. It was also obvious from the past examples and prevailing circumstances that the VIPs took benefits in both the cases while the common man and the country had to bear the burnt, he added. People were standing in queues for the bag of wheat flour in every city, the prices of bread touched the skies and ruling elite was busy in fight, he regretted, reminding the politicians their prime responsibility to provide peaceful environment to the masses for elections. Neither the establishment, nor the political parties and judiciary owned the country but they were the people of Pakistan who had to make the ultimate decision, he said.

The JI chief said the three-member bench of the top court had an option to convene the full court session if it wanted to stick to its position on election date in Punjab as everyone would be bound to accept the decision.

Earlier, addressing a mass meeting in Lalamosa Gujrat, Sirajul Haq said the country needed honest and competent leader to get rid of the prevailing crises. He said the country was full of resources but the corruption and unfair distribution of resources created the problems. He said that nobody from abroad would now come to help out Pakistan and the problems would be resolved only if the national leadership would come forward. He said the JI could make the country a welfare Islamic state if voted to power. (NNI)
