Dozen security men killed

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): At least 12 security personnel have been killed and 13 more gone missing in the wake of a Taliban attack in northern Kunduz province. A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News that militants stormed an Afghan National Army (ANA) base in the Charkh Aab area of Kunduz City.

He said seven security personnel were killed, three wounded and 13 others were missing. Reinforcements seeking to rescue the security personnel under attack came a Taliban ambush on the highway. The source added three ANA soldiers and two policemen were killed and two military tanks destroyed in the ambush.

Amruddin Wali, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok 15 security forces suffered casualties in the overnight attack and all their weapons and ammunition seized by the rebels.

Police spokesman Inamuddin Rahmani confirmed the incidents but he was unaware of casualties. Meanwhile, the Taliban confirmed the attack. The group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the militants stormed a security base in Hawz area. He claimed seven security personnel were killed and nine others wounded.
