DPO among two killed in Chaman suicide blast
CHAMAN (NNI): District Police Officer (DPO) Sajid Mohmand and his security guard were killed and over twenty people were injured in a suicide blast near Levies Headquarter in Eidgah area of Chaman on Monday.
The security sources said it was a suicide bombing. They said, “The suicide bomber targeted DPO Sajid Khan’s convoy, killing him and injuring over 20 people.” According to the security sources, head and legs of the bombers have been found.
They said, “The bomber was riding a motorbike which he rammed into the DPO’s vehicle.” Assistant way to the Commissioner Chaman Kashif confirmed the attack. The DPO succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The entire area was sealed and the security forces launched a search operation to nab the culprits. Body of the DPO and wounded people were shifted to Civil Hospital Chaman on board a helicopter.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned terrorist attack and expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the attack. The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and grant of courage to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss.
He directed for best possible medical treatment for those injured in the attack and prayed for their swift recovery. Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan also condemned the incident and called for report of the incident.
Earlier, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near a security check post killed two security personnel in Khurram agency near Pakistan- Afghan border. The troops were fetching water from a reservoir when an IED went off.
The rescue teams rushed to the spot when two more IED exploded, killing two troops and injuring four others. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
