BADAKHSHAN (TOLOnews): Several officials from women-focused private media outlets in Badakhshan province report losing most of their employees due to economic challenges.
According to them, if these economic issues are not resolved, they will be forced to shut down their operations.
Najla Shirzad, the head of one of Badakhshan’s private media outlets, stated: “Approximately 18 girls were working here. Due to a lack of funding, some of them stopped working, and now we only have seven girls with us.”
Fayza Mazin, a media employee, said: “The primary challenge we face here is the lack of funding and sponsors. In my view, media plays a crucial role in any society and represents the voice of the people.”
Additionally, some employees of Radio Sadai Banowan, one of the private women-focused media outlets in Badakhshan, say they have not received their salaries for over five months. They are urging officials in the caretaker government to address their challenges.
Arshin, a media employee, stated: “If media outlets are not supported, the voices that should reach the community will remain unheard.”
However, the Badakhshan Department of Information and Culture assures efforts to address the challenges faced by local media in the province.
Zabihullah Amiri, the Head of Badakhshan’s Department of Information and Culture, said: “To resolve these challenges, we brought the Deputy Minister of Publications of the Ministry of Information and Culture to Badakhshan and shared the issues obstructing the media’s progress with him.”
Currently, two visual media outlets and ten private audio media outlets are operating in Badakhshan province. Among them, two are run by women, with approximately 45 women and 73 men engaged in media activities in these outlets.
