ECP to hear PTI petition

ISLAMABAD: A five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza on Tuesday heard the petition on irregularities and illegalities committed during Intra-party election of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and fixed January 8 as next date for hearing.

During proceeding, PTI counsel raised questions on jurisdiction of ECP to hear the case while citing the judgment of Supreme Court. On which the CEC said that election tribunals are constituted for general elections and local government elections. He asked the PTI counsel to provide the copy of relevant decision of the Supreme Court. On submitting written objections with the commission by PTI counsel, one member of commission said that the ECP had sought the record of PTI intra-party election.
