ECP to register eunuchs as voters: secretary ECP

Islamabad: Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad Monday assured that especial steps being taken by ECP to register transgender as voters. Talking to a delegation of transgender who called upon the secretary ECP in his office on Monday, the secretary hoped that disable persons, women and transgender will actively participate in upcoming elections.Matters related to enlisting the third gender as voter and problems being faced by the community during polling process were discussed in detail during the meeting.

Assuring full cooperation on behest of ECP, Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad said that before starting review of voter lists’ from January 2018, all district election commissioners would be directed to register transgender as voters adding priority would be given to transvestite at polling stations during the polling process, he said. “During the training of Presiding officers, they would be given special directives regarding care of eunuchs on polling day,” Secretary ECP mentioned while talking to the delegation.

He told the delegation that drive going on in 79 districts to register women as voters during which steps will also be taken for registration of third gender. The delegation thanked the secretary for taking beneficial steps for the community and assured him to play due role during the upcoming polls.

The delegation was comprised upon leader of Baluchistan Transgender Alliance Madam Lucky, General Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhaw Transgender Alliance Arzoo Khan, Farzana Khan, Program Coordinator Blue Whales Qamar Naseem, Gul Jana Advocate and Advocate Shazia Ijaz.
