ECP rejects appeals seeking delay in Election 2018

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected all three petitions on Monday seeking a delay in the General Election which is scheduled to be held on July 25.

On Monday, Chief Election Commissioner, Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza had reserved his verdict after hearing the petitions requesting a delay in the general election of 2018.

Counsel of the petitioner, Kamran Murtaza told during the hearing that they do not want a delay in elections but want elections to be held across the country on the same day.

He added that it is the constitutional right of the people of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to vote for their candidates.

In reply, CEC said that there was fresh delimitation of constituencies in FATA.

After hearing the arguments, the ECP dismissed all three petitions calling for a delay in the general election
