Egypt executes 3 for murder of judge’s son

CAIRO (AA): The Egyptian authorities on Thursday executed three “dissidents” convicted earlier of killing a judge’s son in 2014, according to Muslim Brotherhood and human rights sources.

In a Facebook post, Ayman Abdul Ghani, a leading member of Egypt’s banned Muslim Brotherhood group, identified the three executed individuals as Ahmed Maher al-Hindawi, Abdul Hamid Metwalli and Al-Motazbillah Ghanem.

Human rights activist Alaa Abdel-Monsef, meanwhile, also reported the triple execution in a similar Facebook post.

The Egyptian authorities, however, have yet to confirm the reports, while lawyers for the condemned trio were not immediately available for comment.

In late 2017, Egypt’s Court of Cassation, the country’s highest appellate court, upheld death sentences handed down earlier against the three men.

The defendants were first convicted in 2014 for killing the son of Mahmoud al-Sayyid al-Murli, a judge from Egypt’s Mansoura province.

Two years later, a Mansoura criminal court sentenced the three to death, along with two others who were sentenced in absentia.
