Electronic driving licenses to be issued

KABUL (TOLOnews): The General Directorate of Traffic announced that electronic driving licenses would be distributed across the country soon.

Haseebullah Mokhtar said that the aim of this initiative is to prevent the issuance of illegal licenses and to maintain order in the country. He said that the country’s electronic driving licenses will meet international standards.

Haseebullah Mokhtar, the General Director of the department, said: “The distribution process of electronic driving licenses has been ongoing. We have made decisions with the relevant departments, and finally, the decision went to the technical section of the Economic Commission. The General Directorate of Traffic Police will initiate it through the Economic Commission.”

Some drivers and residents of the capital consider this initiative by the Ministry of Interior beneficial in reducing criminal activities and preventing the issuance of illegal licenses.

Nazeer Ahmad, a resident of Kabul, said: “It is a very good initiative because, as I see, 95% of drivers in Kabul have obtained their licenses through bribery, paying 5,000 Afghanis.”

Iftikhar, another resident of Kabul, said: “It not only reduces crime but also helps traffic in creating urban order.”

Khalilullah, a driver, said: “Most of the licenses issued previously are not registered with the Traffic Directorate and are counterfeit. It would be very good to make them electronic.”

Officials from the General Directorate of Traffic also pledge that they have plans in place to maintain urban order and prevent traffic incidents in the country.
