Ending violence against Afghan women a distant dream

KABUL (Afghanistan Time): The Human Rights Commission in Northern Faryab province expressed its deepest anxiety over spike in the act of violence against women, where despite scrambling for the rights of women, violence against them have been sharply intensified.

Zabiullah Jawad Head of provincial human rights commission, said Tuesday that six violence cases of women’s murders have been registered in last three months.

“There is no safe place for women, we are witnessed of violent act against them on daily basis, and six cases of women’s murder is a visible instance that become victim of summary executions and honor killings,” he said. Over 450 cases of violence against women have been registered in the province.

Beating up, drug addiction, early marriages and honor killings are making these cases of violence, he added.

Meanwhile, Faryab Women Department said that majority of violence against women have taken place in the remote areas and the culprits yet to be brought to the book.

Wahida Ludeen Head of the Communication Office of the Faryab women department said they have registered over 50 violent cases in last one month.

Meanwhile, Maria Noori head of the women rights department for Farayab termed conflict and insecurity as the main reason behind escalation of violence against women.

However, she said the department is working day and night to decrease the level of violence to some extent if not completely.
