Enemy Forces Cannot SourIran-Afghanistan Ties: Iranian FM

KABUL (Agencies): The Iranian Foreign Minister said that any attempt by adversary forces to sour relations between Iran and Afghanistan could be overcome by the countries’ shared history and culture.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, in an interview with IRIB, talked about the recent skirmishes between the Taliban and Iranian border guards, which resulted in casualties on both sides.

He stressed strengthening cooperation and establishing markets along the nearly 900 km border to enhance the two countries’ security.

He also said Iran would pursue its water rights from the Helmand River through legal and political means.

In the recent skirmishes between the security forces of both sides, one Taliban force was killed, and several others were injured. In contrast, two Iranian guards were killed, and several others were wounded.

The Taliban authorities reiterated that they are committed to the 1973 treaty regarding water rights from the Helmand River, while Iran accused them of not considering Iran’s water rights from the river.
